Hope Shine Uganda is a Christian organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable women and children from urban slum communities in Uganda, breaking the generational cycle of poverty. Founded in 2012 by Joseph Arineitwe, the ministry was born out of a deeply personal experience. After witnessing the profound challenges his own sister faced when she became pregnant at 15 — rejected by some of their family and ostracized by the community — Joseph felt a divine calling to support young girls enduring similar hardships.
Many of the women Hope Shine serves have little to no education. Often, they leave rural Uganda for the city in search of employment, only to find themselves trapped in slum conditions. Many work as domestic helpers for as little as $12 a month — sometimes without pay — while others are exploited or forced into prostitution to survive.
Hope Shine stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity, offering a year-long, free vocational training program, along with counseling, spiritual guidance, and empowerment activities. Through these programs, women gain skills to secure sustainable livelihoods, restore their dignity, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
Our mission at Hope Shine is to empower vulnerable women and children to break the cycle of poverty and become independent.
