We serve the people living in the Namuwongo slum

Hope Shine Uganda (HSU), formerly Teenage Mothers Outreach (TeMO) is a faith based, non-profit organization founded in 2012. Our core mandate is to support vulnerable young women. By providing a safe environment, those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds can gain knowledge, cultivate new skills, and begin to flourish in society.

Our Mission
Who Does Hope Shine Serve and Why?
~ Joseph Arineitwe

Hope Shine works to empower women and girls by providing them with the necessary resources and skills to make informed decisions about their lives. We work alongside other grassroot community leadership and initiatives to provide support for these young women so they can become self-reliant, achieve their dreams for a better future and realize their full God-given potential. Our mission at Hope Shine is to empower vulnerable women and children to break the cycle of poverty and become independent.

Meet The Team

Daphine's Story

Daphine is a single mother of two children. She successfully completed Hope Shine’s year-long vocational program in December 2022, earning a certificate in tailoring and fashion design. While in our program, Daphine showcased exceptional dedication and talent and was one of our top students. To support her promising future, we presented her with a sewing machine at graduation. She started her business from her single-room house.

Daphine moved to a new location in June 2023 to expand her business. Recognizing the opportunity for additional revenue, she also started selling soft drinks in her busy area. She is now able to pay her children’s school fees and rent for her residence. She dreams of establishing a mini-supermarket and expanding her workshop to manufacture uniforms for the schools in her community.

Anita's Story

Anita moved from her village to the city of Kampala in search of employment after dropping out of school, due to the lack of school fees. She ended up in the slums of Kampala where she started working as a maid. She was abused by her employer who threw her out when she became pregnant. As a result, she found herself homeless and without the means to return to her village. Upon learning of her situation, Hope Shine began providing support until she gave birth to her precious baby. We then enrolled her in our vocational program, where she successfully graduated with a certificate in hairdressing and cosmetology. Hope Shine provided the necessary equipment for Anita to start her own hair salon. Today, she is a proud business owner and she has worked so hard to expand her business. She is now able to provide for her family and her baby is attending baby classes (preschool).

Alice's Story

Alice is a mother of two children. She used to work as a maid, but she faced significant struggles trying to provide for her kids and afford life’s essentials. When she came looking for food assistance for her family, an opportunity arose for her to enroll in a year-long tailoring and fashion design course at Hope Shine Uganda.

In 2021, Alice graduated as one of the top students and was given the equipment to launch her own shop. Today, Alice successfully manages two shops where she employs two individuals. Thanks to her determination and hard work, her children are now comfortably attending school, and she is able to support her family.
